Windows 95 and Windows 98
There were a few wallpapers in Windows 95 and Windows 98. The default wallpaper was solid color #008080, so if you want to experience the style of then, you can change background for single color, and change color to #008080.
Of course there were a few wallpapers other than single color, like sky, cherry blossoms, etc. Also Windows 98 had several themes – Jungle, space, mystery, etc. So I’ll share all links for them;

Blow are samples of theme wallpapers; we can see how resolutions were low (cause in Windows 95, 98, RAMs were only 16MB or 32MB, lol).
Windows XP
Windows XP was the best selling OS after Windows 98, and its lifespan was the longest in Windows’ history.
Therefore, I believe many people know/loved the default wallpaper in Windows XP – meadow (bliss). Here are the default Windows XP wallpapers;
Windows Vista
Default wallpapers in Windows changed dramatically in Windows Vista. Windows Vista had GB sized RAM, so Windows could use wallpapers in High resolution.
Windows Vista wallpapers were already famous in beta version, but all wallpapers in released Windows Vista were more beautiful then those of beta version.
Although there are still some blogs which explains Windows vista wallpapers, most links are broken. But you can still download them at DeviantArt.

Windows 7
Similar to Windows Vista, successive OS Windows 7 also had various background images. The default wallpaper in Windows 7 was sky blue with its logo, there were many other wallpapers; architecture, character, scenery, nature, as well as special wallpapers for some countries.
